Grey (Sonnerats) Junglefowl

Heating Requirements: Sonnerats Junglefowl do require protection from the elements in cold weather as they originate from southern India.  It is not wise to let your birds remain outside if the temperatures drop below freezing however there are some strains being developed that are cold hardy.  I hope to get some of these birds to infuse their hardiness into my stock.

This is my 06' Grey Sonnerats Junglefowl.  Greys are 2 year birds meaning they take two full years to reach their adult plumage but he still looks nice as a one year old.

Below is my 06' Grey Junglefowl pullet.  She has yet to lay for me but I hope to raise my first chicks this year.

General Information

These birds are not for the beginner fancier as they are very wild and need more space than other breeds.  They thrive on a mixture of game ration and mixed grains.  I give my birds greens from the yard on a daily basis to supplement their diet.  High perches and plenty of cover are the recipe to success with this species.

Below is a close up shot of the magnificent feathering that is developing on my 2006 hatch Sonnerats cock.  He is already quite breathtaking so I can't wait to see how he turns out next year.
